The Providence Bay Agricultural Society was established in 1884 with the main objective of encouraging interest, promote improvements in, and advance the standards of agriculture, domestic industry and rural life. Although a lot has changed in the world since then, the Society's main focus for the most part, remains the same .... Organizing and holding an agricultural exhibition, encouraging young people to become interested in agriculture and domestic practices and drawing together both rural and urban citizens for their mutual benefit. To this end, the Society holds the Providence Bay Fair each year beginning the third Friday in August.

The Fair provides an opportunity for the public to view the judging of livestock, experience the power and stamina seen in the horse pulls, enjoy the light horse show put on by the Manitoulin Light Horse Club and cheer on your favourite contestant in the Fair Ambassador Pageant. It also provides an excellent venue for exhibitors to show off their accomplishments and vendors to display their wares.

For the "not-so-rural" oriented, there's a parade, live entertainment, children's races, a Midway and so much more to see and do throughout the weekend. Another project that the Society has undertaken in recent years is running CMRC-sanctioned Motocross races where young and not-so-young riders alike can compete for points and prizes. The races have proven to be a real crowd pleaser during the Fair and as well the Society holds a qualifier in the late Spring and a regular circuit race usually during July. Practice days are held at the track in conjunction with the Manitoulin Island Dirt Riders Association.

As you can see, the Providence Bay Agricultural Society has something to offer just about everyone. Make it a point to come out and take part in our Fair and races. Guaranteed, you'll see your neighbours there and some people you haven't seen in awhile as well as some new, smiling faces. Its good, wholesome fun for the whole family.
